The Sun and the Star is a fantasy adventure novel set in the world of Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It is the first book in The Nico Di Angelo Adventures series and focuses on fan-favorite demigod Nico di Angelo, son of Hades, alongside his boyfriend Will Solace, son of Apollo. The novel is written by Rick Riordan and Mark Oshiro.
The story follows Nico and Will on a dangerous quest into Tartarus, the deepest and darkest region of the Underworld, as they attempt to rescue an old friend while facing monsters, personal fears, and challenges to their relationship.
Nico di Angelo has always been familiar with darkness. As the son of Hades, he has experienced loss, loneliness, and battles against powerful forces. However, Nico finally has someone who understands him: Will Solace, the son of Apollo and a symbol of light in Nico's life.
When Nico begins hearing a mysterious voice calling from Tartarus, he believes it may belong to Bob (Iapetus), the reformed Titan who helped Percy Jackson and Annabeth Chase escape from the Underworld. A prophecy reveals that Nico must undertake a dangerous mission, and Will insists on joining him.
Together, they must travel into the darkest place in existence, where Nico's connection to death and Will's connection to sunlight are tested like never before.
