Goodbye, Eri: (Goodbye, Eri)

Product Overview & Details

Goodbye, Eri is a standalone manga by Tatsuki Fujimoto that blends coming-of-age drama, filmmaking, and psychological ambiguity.

The story follows a teenager named Yuta, whose mother asks him to record her final days on video as she battles a terminal illness. After her death, Yuta edits the footage into a film that is criticized by his classmates. Feeling isolated, he meets a mysterious girl named Eri, who encourages him to keep making movies. As they spend time together creating films, the line between reality and fiction becomes increasingly blurred.

Rather than providing straightforward answers, Goodbye, Eri explores themes such as:

• Grief and how people remember those they've lost.
• The way filmmaking can reshape memories and emotions.
• The tension between truth and artistic storytelling.
• Growing up, loneliness, and finding purpose through creativity.

The manga is known for its cinematic panel layouts, frequent use of page compositions that resemble film storyboards, and an ending that invites multiple interpretations. Like many of Fujimoto's works, it mixes heartfelt emotion with unexpected twists, encouraging readers to question what is real and what has been staged.
