Our Constitution Our Pride (Paperback) | Understanding the Making, Content & Journey of the Indian Constitution | Ram Madhav

Our Constitution Our Pride by Ram Madhav is an accessible exploration of the history, making, content, and continuing journey of the Indian Constitution. Published in 2025 as India marked 75 years since the adoption of the Constitution, the book examines the circumstances and debates that shaped one of the world’s longest written constitutions.

The book traces India’s constitutional journey beyond the formation of the Constituent Assembly, looking at the earlier aspirations and political developments that contributed to the demand for self-government and a Constitution of India. It then turns to the work of the Constituent Assembly, whose first session was held in December 1946 and which ultimately adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949.

Madhav focuses on four broad dimensions: the struggle that preceded constitution-making, the process through which the Constitution was drafted, the important features and provisions of the document, and its journey over the decades following its adoption. The narrative brings attention to the contributions and deliberations of prominent figures associated with the Constituent Assembly, while placing the constitutional text within its wider historical context.

The book also includes important historical documents and speeches connected with the Constitution’s making and later public discussions about it, offering readers an opportunity to engage with primary material alongside the author’s account.

Written for readers interested in Indian history, constitutional studies, civics, politics, and public affairs, Our Constitution Our Pride provides a compact introduction to the story behind India’s foundational legal document. It can be useful for students, competitive-examination aspirants, researchers, and general readers seeking a broader understanding of how the Constitution emerged, what it contains, and how it has evolved through India’s democratic journey.
