Product Overview & Details

Sunrise on the Reaping is the fifth novel in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. This prequel returns readers to the dystopian world of Panem, taking place 24 years before the events of the original The Hunger Games trilogy. The story focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy, the future mentor of Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark.

Set during the 50th Hunger Games (the Second Quarter Quell), the novel explores Haymitch’s life before he became the cynical and troubled mentor seen in the original trilogy. It follows his experience as he is forced into the deadly arena and faces the Capitol’s cruelty, manipulation, and political control.

About the Story

The story begins on the morning of the 50th Hunger Games, a special Quarter Quell where twice as many tributes are selected from the districts of Panem.

In District 12, sixteen-year-old Haymitch Abernathy is focused on his family, his future, and the girl he loves. His life changes forever when his name is drawn during the Reaping. He is taken to the Capitol and forced to compete in one of the most brutal versions of the Hunger Games.

Inside the arena, Haymitch discovers that survival requires more than physical strength. He must use his intelligence, courage, and ability to understand people while facing a system designed to destroy him.
