Vagabond Definitive Edition, Vol. 1: Volume 1(Vagabond Definitive Edition)

Product Overview & Details

Vagabond Definitive Edition, Vol. 1 is the first volume of the premium hardcover release of Vagabond, created by Takehiko Inoue. This oversized definitive edition collects the first three original manga volumes into a single 728-page hardcover, featuring upgraded printing, textured cover design, and high-quality paper intended to showcase Inoue's detailed artwork.

Set in early 17th-century Japan, the story follows Shinmen Takezō, a fierce and reckless 17-year-old who survives the devastating Battle of Sekigahara on the losing side. Branded as a fugitive and feared for his violent nature, Takezō is hunted by both soldiers and his own village. His life begins to change after encounters with an eccentric monk and his childhood friend, who challenge him to abandon his brutal instincts and pursue a higher purpose. Over time, Takezō adopts the name Miyamoto Musashi and begins the lifelong journey to become Japan's greatest swordsman—not merely through combat, but through discipline, self-discovery, and spiritual growth.

Unlike a conventional action manga, Vagabond is as much a philosophical drama as it is a samurai epic. Volume 1 introduces themes of:

• Personal growth and redemption
• Honor and the meaning of strength
• Survival in a war-torn society
• The pursuit of enlightenment
• The cost of violence and ambition

Takehiko Inoue's artwork is widely celebrated for its expressive brushwork, cinematic composition, and historical detail, making this edition particularly appealing to collectors and first-time readers alike.
